notes
: The
inverted
pear-shaped
teapot
is
raised
and has a
cast
and
applied
gadrooned
lip
molding
and
foot
. The
body
is
engraved
at its
shoulder
with
delicate
leafy
branches
and
scrolls
. The
curved
molded
spout
,
ornamented
with
stylized
shells
and
drops
,
is
cast
in
identical
halves
.
25
strainer
holes
are
punched
in a
diamond
pattern
behind
the
spout
. The
two
shaped
handle
sockets
are
cast
in
identical
halves
, the
one
at the
shoulder
capped
by a
scrolled
acanthus
leaf
. The
C-scrolled
wooden
handle
is
attached
to
each
socket
with a
silver
pin.
, The
domed
circular
cover
is
raised
and
is
attached
to the
body
with a
flush
5-part
hinge
. A
band
of
leafy
scrolls
is
engraved
around
the
edge
of the
cover
, and a
cast
vase-shaped
finial
is
pinned
and
soldered
to its
center
. There
is
a
small
air
hole
in the
cover
beside
the
finial
. The
inscription
beneath
the
foot
is
much
later
