Notes	Thomas Whipham II and Charles Wright, working in partnership 1756-1775) City: London Marks: Fully marked on underside: maker's mark CW intersecting T.W (Grimwade 2976) leopard's head lion passant date letter D for 1759/60. Lion passant on underside of cover Inscription: Engraved in block letters on underside of foot: THIS BELONGED TO JOSEPH/1733-1816/AND SARAH WHARTON/1740-/WAS USED AT MESCHIANZA Medium notes: The inverted pear-shaped teapot is raised and has a cast and applied gadrooned lip molding and foot. The body is engraved at its shoulder with delicate leafy branches and scrolls. The curved molded spout, ornamented with stylized shells and drops, is cast in identical halves. 25 strainer holes are punched in a diamond pattern behind the spout. The two shaped handle sockets are cast in identical halves, the one at the shoulder capped by a scrolled acanthus leaf. The C-scrolled wooden handle is attached to each socket with a silver pin., The domed circular cover is raised and is attached to the body with a flush 5-part hinge. A band of leafy scrolls is engraved around the edge of the cover, and a cast vase-shaped finial is pinned and soldered to its center. There is a small air hole in the cover beside the finial.
